Mid-Life (exercise) Crisis!
OMG, I believe I am experiencing a mid-life exercise crisis. I just left the gym after a measly 25 minutes walk on the treadmill followed by a few resistance exercises and I feel like never walking in that gym again. The combination of the Neanderthal (spelling?) lifting like a complete moron, swearing up a storm, and yelling at his buddies at the top of his lungs, to the spin instructor turning up his music to ear bleeding levels...I'm over it. This isn't exercise for health! Those poor participants in the spin class are going to lose their hearing by 65 or at least develop a wicked case of tenitis. Then again, that was me not too long ago. I am just suffering the consequences now and want to serve as a warning for others.
My back is killing me just walking. My foot is completely screwed up to the point of sheer pain after 20 minutes. My trapezius is seizing and all I have done is walked! OMG....I'm literally falling apart. I believe this is what Oprah calls a "light bulb moment"....I have to make a change. I just don't know what change to make? I know I am done with the fitness scene but where am I to go? What am I to do? What is to become of me?(this is where you say..."Frankly, my dear Kathi...I don't give a damn.")
I am in love with hot yoga and if I could do that every day I'd be very very happy. But who has 2 hours to give every day? I just can't do it. So I go every other day. Walking? Swimming? Hiking? I have no idea how I'm going to satisfy my need for a cardio challenge. I just know change needs to happen and it needs to happen now or I will throw a dumbell at the next groaner/grunter I have the misfortune to workout beside.
If anyone out there has an idea or has a plan already in place that marries cardiovascular challenge with strength, stability, stamina, and enjoyment please let me know. Leave a comment. I beg of you. In the meantime, I will be walking very carefully as to not shatter a bone or dislocate a joint.
When I think of something, I'll get back to you.
